Help! Bleach on Scout Pants!

This is the post that I wanted to find a few months ago when I discovered bleach had gotten onto Rez's $40 scout uniform pants.  I didn't want to buy another pair, they were not that old and in really good shape otherwise.  The bleach turns the green a lovely lavender color.

They are made of some microfiber fabric, really nice but not easily dyeable.  I looked up how to dye polyester, not an easy proposition and that is assuming you can find the right color of dye.

So, I came up with my own solution, fabric paint.

I mixed these 4 colors to get a color that was close, then dapped it on to the bleach spots, rubbed it in and let it dry.

After a day or so, I washed them.

It turned out pretty good, not perfect, but when you look at them you think more of camouflage than, "my what a lovely lavender that is."

I ended up buying another pair of pants for "dress", but these work great for when he is on hikes, etc.

Scouts, Scouts Everywhere.

I think it is inevitable, when you have boys and are a member of the LDS church,  you will be involved in scouting.  Scouting takes up a lot or our lives.
Rez was a cub scout and is now a boy scout.
Ocean was a cub scout and is now a boy scout.
Mo is anxiously awaiting his 8th birthday, so he can become a cub scout.
Trip was a Cub Scout Den leader and is now on the scout committee, plus he is an Eagle scout.
Even Lily could not avoid it forever.  She is now the Cub Scout Committee Chairman as part of her calling in the Stake Primary.
We send (or take) our boys on camping trips and plan our summers around scout camp.  Right now we are preparing for the Klondike Derby next in a week and Rez and Trip going snow camping on Mt Rainer at the end of the month.  Lots of cold weather gear needed.

Even more amazing are all the people who have been involved in scouting through their lives and how they still support it.

The Chief Seattle Council and Seattle Mariners had a Friends of Scouting fundraiser luncheon today.  They wanted to have some actual scouts there sitting at each table, so Rez got to leave school for most of the day and go.

Some of the baseball players from the Mariners were helping to put it on, and from what I could glean from Rez, they were auctioning off tickets, they must have been really nice ticket and some other nice things because they raised $275,000

Here they are saying Thanks.

I want to add my thanks to all the community for supporting our boys in scouting.

Scout Camp

R was at scout camp last week.  Here he is bright and early Monday morning at 5:15 am, ready to go.

T drove a bunch of scouts up and was able to spend a couple of days there as well.  He and Rez made plans for next year for him to stay all week, when they will be joined by Ocean.

He got to climb the climbing wall (though technically he was too young).  He was a champion climber and could dino (where you let go with both hands and jump up to reach something).   T says he looked like he was skittering up the wall.  He is so lightweight that he can pull himself up easily.

There was also a co-ed Japanese troop there at the same time.  They got to trade patches and find out about a Japanese card game.

He also got to sleep out all night in a shelter he built himself as part of his wilderness survival merit badge.  Though he did tell me that he didn't really sleep much that night.

One of the things he got to do was learn to shoot a .22 rifle.  He in now a member of the dime club, because he shot 5 bullets into the space of a dime on one target.  (This isn't actually the target that shows it, he forgot to get that one.)

My comment after I hugged him when he got home, "Your teeth look like you haven't brushed them in a week."
"I haven't."
I guess there is a reason mom's don't go to scout camp :)

I just learned about a much more detailed report of his troop at scout camp here at gimletblog.com.  You can read first hand experiences and see pictures of R, T and the climbing wall, the Japanese troop and other scout doings.
