Sorry!

I have a little boy that loves to play games.  It is this one.

Julius

In the morning after his brothers and sister go to school, he sets up a game.  As soon at that one is done,  he gets out another.  One of his favorites is

Sorry!

He has become quite the good counter as he moves our pieces around the board.  The other day I had some work to do, so he set up the game in the kitchen and moved all the pieces and flipped the cards while I made the appropriate comments.  "Oh no",  "Sorry!", "Hey", etc.  Some times Zelda plays with us, but she usually looses interest and so we take over for her.
The other day, my visiting teacher came over.  She got to play with us, too.

He also likes to play Uno, which is great for learning to match colors and numbers.
And Candy Land
Mouse Trap

A B Seas
 and Squarlles

He also likes
Tic Tic to Ride (Ticket to Ride)
But that one is not so fun with just the 2 of us.

I think I might have to teach him one of my favorites,
Yhatzee!

I will get him writing and doing addition!

You should stop by sometime and we will play a game.

FHE Games - Poor Pussy

Poor Pussy is a classic Family Home Evening game at our house.

The game is played with everyone sitting in a circle.  One person is a pussy cat.  They have to go up to individual people and try to get them to smile or laugh.  The person on the other hand has to pat the pussy on the head 3 times and say, "Poor pussy, poor pussy, poor pussy."  If they can do it without cracking a smile, the pussy has to move on to someone else.  If they crack, they are the new pussy.

We used to play this game when I was growing up.
My dad was the king.

He could get anyone to laugh, especially my mom.  He would get down on his hands and knees. drag one leg behind him and meow pitifully and he hobbled up to you for a pat on the head.

We played it one afternoon at FAT, when my youngest brother brought his girlfriend to meet us all for the first time.

She smiled and had to be the pussy.  She crawled over to my sister and licked her leg.
We new then that she fit perfectly into the family.  (They were married soon after.)

FHE Games - Penny in the Flour

On Monday nights we have family home evening.  We have a little meeting with songs and prayers, a short gospel or other (something we need work on) lesson and then a game.  The game was always my favorite growing up and it is my kids favorite now.  We have some great games.

Penny in the Flour is one we played growing up.
First you pack a cup with flour and turn it out onto a plate, so you have a moulded cup of flour on the plate.    Then you place a penny on the top.  The object of the game is to slice away the flour without making the penny fall.  If it falls, you have to get it out, with your teeth.  We take turns with the knife, slicing away the flour, until the fateful turn when it falls.

Here is the penny, will it fall the next turn?

It is so fun, but you get a mouth full of flour/saliva paste.

As a bonus, here is the vintage '80's Penny in the Flour shot.
