Brave

My sister and brother in law like to dress up in costume to go to movies.  The fact that she has long red curly hair made it a given that they would dress up to go see brave.

My kids were very excited to join her, so we all did.
There were great preparations to be made to get us ready.  Daphne sewed her first dress (with my help) and she and I made kilts for the boys to wear.

Ocean was game to let us fix his hair.
It is so light that we had to apply the dye twice to get the depth that we wanted.

We also had fun sculpting it.

Here he is a red head.

Then he let us set it on rollers and sat under the dryer to get some curl.

I think we did pretty good.

Fun With Hair

One day I had a little extra bleach after a hair appointment, so we had a little fun.

Harvey got a large gold splash in the front.

He loves it and now wants all his hair gold.

Julius got gold tips.

And likes his hair in a faux hawk.

Catching Up

Summer just goes so quickly.  Here are some cute photos of the kids from the last month.

Zelda and Julius playing in the bath.

I love the look on her face, so fun.

After I finish a client, Zelda likes to get out the kids cape and climb up in the chair for her turn.  Usually we just spray her hair with water and comb it a bit.

This is Julius' new hobby, writing on himself.  Oh well, it isn't as long lasting as the haircuts he used to give himself.

On the 4th of July, Mo got to help with the flag raising at the pancake breakfast.  I think he had more fun than is showing on his face.

Mo climbing the tree in front of his Aunts house.

Ocean, Mo and Harvey in the tree.

Mo again.

Zelda her cute little self.

One day Harvey discovered the joy of dirt.  He piled it in his hair and then would shake it out.  There was a huge dust cloud that reminded me of pig pen from Peanuts.  I have some fun videos, but I can't get them to upload for some reason, so you will have to imagine.  The other kids of course had to join in the fun.

Ocean and Daphne helping Zelda on the bike.  She has spent most of the summer in just her diaper.

Mo getting his bobcat award in cub scouts, oh and I am 6 months pregnant.

The Garden

The garden is growing well this year.  The pictures are from about a month ago, so things are much bigger now.

We have to have the garden on the outside of the fence for two reasons, one is that that is the place that gets the most sun with all the trees in our yard and two is then the chickens can't destroy it.

Here are my tomatoes

Some even have tomatoes on them.

Daphne has been wanting to buy ladybugs to put in the garden since she has seen them for sale last year.  So we did.  We bought a package of live ladybugs and and sprinkled them around the garden.  They didn't stay around very long.

Here are the beds on the other side of the drive way.

Our raspberries really took off this year.  I think it helped that I fenced around them (they are inside the main fence and the chickens love to eat raspberry leaves) to keep the chickens out.

The flowers are some of my favorite things growing.

I love calendulas.  We had some growing in Bremerton and they would reseed themselves every year.  I had a hard time finding seeds when we moved, but my mother in law had some growing at her house in Utah.  She let me dig some up to take home with me.  Then she sent me an envelope of seeds when hers went to seed.  Some of they plants are self seeded from the transplants I took home and some are from the seeds I planted this year.
I love the orange color and how bright they are.

The lettuce really grew well this year.  It has mostly bolted now, I think I will need to seed some new, to keep us in lettuce.

Obsession

Zelda is obsessed with socks, shoes and clothes.  It doesn't matter who's socks, shoes or clothes they are, she will try them on.  In fact I think she prefers miss matching because when I give her two matching shoes to put on, she will chuck one away and find another to put on instead.  Who needs boring matching shoes?

I am impressed with her ability to put socks on herself.  She has been doing it for several months now.

I have tried to document different times of shoe/clothing changes, sometimes multiple in a day and often it is shoes and socks sans clothing.

Here she is sporting a nice running shoe.

This is her winter look, boots and a stocking cap, apparently it also works for baking (note the hot pad).

Here is our girl ready for the rain.  Hat and umbrella in hand, with Rez shirt on her waist, Julius pj top on one leg, a hiking boot and Daphne's pink slip on.

This time she had too many shoes to wear all at once, decisions, decisions.

She waved the shoe at me,

And decided it made a better hat.

This day, I got her dressed and she insisted on putting some underwear on over, then preceded to cover it up with my black slip (with a knot tied in it) and her skirt.

Here she had ditched the skirt and slip and is just sporting the underwear over her pants along with a shoe and boot.

Then she decided they worked better on the opposite feet.

Here is another good look.

She sometimes tries top put on people's clothes while they are still wearing them.

We love this girl!
